China hates World of Warcraft, and CCTV has launched a TV show called "Battling Internet Demons" to demonstrate its harmful effects. Lots of video of players in high level instances doing digital battle, patients sobbing, men in white coats doing science and quotes like, "Walk out of the World of Warcraft and recover your human decency." And "The game developers are producing opium." WoW players are not amused.
Chinese designer, Zhao Bandi continues to get free publicity by trying to sue the makers of KUNG FU PANDA. He says on his blog, ""I want Dreamworks to explain to me why the panda Po has green eyes...A green eye is evil, and that's definitely not a Chinese panda." Compelling. A Beijing court is deciding now if they will accept his case, meanwhile his own works of art featuring panda designs continue to get exposure through his protests against the Hollywood hit. Also, this white guy living in Beijing doesn't like the movie either.
In real news, Kiyoshiro Imawano, the Japanese musician and sometime-actor (best known for his role as "Richard" in Takashi Miike's HAPPINESS OF THE KATAKURIS) has canceled his latest tour due to a recurrence of his larynx cancer. Previously, he had battled cancer of the larynx and it seemed to be in remission. Apparently that's no longer the case.
Tony Leung and Carina Lau's wedding just became super-stupid if it's true that Wong Kar-wai has been hired as the wedding coordinator. Or, sorry, "wedding curator." Art director William Chang is apparently working this gig in order to make sure that Lau's wedding dress looks "visually stunning." Gag. Or am I just jealous?
