After many delays and much rejection, Outcast Cinema is debuting its mini-retrospective of Japanese pink films at Austin's wild n'wooly Fantastic Fest this September. Outcast is the same outfit that took that Nikkatsu Action series all over America and Canada, hand-subtitling movies like A COLT IS MY PASSPORT and THE WARPED ONES for excited audiences who'd never had a chance to see this particular slice of Japanese action movie history before. Now they're taking 4 bizarre-sounding pink films from Japan down to Austin and, fingers crossed, they'll soon be touring the country. Pink films are, if you haven't figured it out by now, sex movies from Japan and they're usually the training ground for some great directors. Jazzy, snazzy and often totally, outrageously avant garde, they ain't your garden variety pornos. In fact, they're some of the most head-spinningly wild movies you'll ever see, where making your brain bubble is the first priority and showing sex in a salacious manner is a distant second. The line-up consists of:

BLUE FILM WOMAN (1969) - a girl avenges her mother's death...by becoming a high priced call girl!�

GUSHING PRAYER: A 15 YEAR OLD PROSTITUTE (1971) - the title sort of says it all. It's directed by Masao Adachi, and it's his last pink film before he started his political filmmaking with Koji Wakamatsu (UNITED RED ARMY).

S&M HUNTER (1986) - S&M Roper is a genius at tying up women, but when The Bombers, an out-of-control girl gang, kidnap a man to use as a sex toy, he must infiltrate their hideout and "show them the ropes." Rim shot, please.

A LONELY COW WEEPS AT DAWN (2003) - from the description alone, this is my personal favorite of the bunch. A farmer mourns his fave cow, now dead. His daughter-in-law lets him milk her every morning as replacement therapy. It's up to her daughter to stop this kinkiness...but, but, but...it's not hurting anyone! Complications, one would imagine, ensue.

The first two films are new 35mm prints. The last two are of more recent vintage and have never touched 35mm. They'll be digital projections.
