HONG KONG -- Following the Oscars success of "The
Departed," Leonardo DiCaprio, Warner Bros and screenwriter William Monahan
will reteam for a remake of another Hong Kong
movies "Confession of Pain."
Like "Infernal
Affairs"," the source material for "Departed," "Confession"
was directed by Andrew Lau Wai-keung and Alan Mak Siu-fai. Script was by Felix
Chong. Action sees a mid-ranking detective use a buddy and former cop to
investigate the murder of his father-in-law. Both "Infernal Affairs"
and "Confession" were produced and repped by Hong
Kong's Media Asia.
Monahan will
write screenplay after tackling "The Long Play," a rock and roll epic
being set up for "Departed" helmer Martin Scorsese at Paramount. Monahan
will take an executive producer credit on "Confession."
Pic is being
developed for DiCaprio to star, although he is unlikely to officially commit until
after reading completed script. Only then would he choose which of two roles
are for him. Original starred Tony Leung Chiu-wai ("In the Mood for
Love") and Takeshi Kaneshiro ("House of Flying Daggers".)
All rights to
the remake will be held by Warner, whose exec Dan Lin will oversee production. Production
companies are DiCaprio's Appian Way and
Vertigo Entertainment. Producers are DiCaprio and Vertigo partners Roy Lee and Doug
Davison.
