SEOUL -- Korean auteur Lee Chang-dong is to produce and direct "Poetry," about a woman at the end of her life in search of new meaning.

Lee produces through his own Pine House Film, with majority finance from UniKorea, which previously bankrolled his "Peppermint Candy" and "Oasis." Production is skedded to begin at the end of the year. Cast is yet to be announced.

Korean sales agent Fine Cut will rep the pic at the Toronto Film Festival.

Lee, a multi-hyphenate novelist and filmmaker who was previously South Korea's Minister of Culture, is also expanding his horizons as a producer.

He is set to produce Korean-French co-production "A Brand New Life," a debut feature by Ounie Lecomte, which will be pitched at next month's Pusan Promotion Plan.

Fine Cut is also handling two other Toronto pics, Korean helmer Noh Young-seok's "Daytime Drinking" and Argentinean Pablo Trapero's "Lion's Den."
