HONG KONG "Cape No. 7" a debut feature by helmer Wei Te-sheng, has secured Taiwan's nomination as the territory's contender for the foreign-language Oscar, according to local reports.

The film's producers were informed of their nomination by the Motion Picture & Drama Association of Taiwan.

Pic, about the rise of a small town rock band and the discovery of a cache of undelivered love letters from 60 years ago, is a celebration of all things Taiwanese delving into themes of generational divides, cultural disparity and small town ennui. In June it was selected as the opening film of the 10th Taipei Film Festival, where it won the jury prize and an audience award.

Int'l sales of the pic, handled by Good Films Workshop, are skedded to get underway at next month's Asian Film Market in Pusan.

According to the UN, and most countries, it is. It's not a fact, either which way. This is a completely subjective issue.

NOT FROM TAIWAN: ...
Article is about that movie, not about the status of Taiwan - a topic most people are sick & tired of.

You will note that with many of our stories, we use the words "country", "territory", "region", etc interchangeably. This is more to cut down on redundancy rather than to indicate a political stance.

In any case, you should be proud of Taiwan's success with "Cape No.7", which has outgrossed all Hollywood films released in Taiwan this year, and the possibility of a resurgence of a commercially viable Taiwanese cinema, rather than dwell on semantical issues that are beyond the scope of this website.
