HONG KONG Leading Indian film distributor Eros Int'l has licensed a package of seven titles to News Corp.'s Asian entertainment platform STAR Television.

Five year deal has global effect, including STAR's entire Asian footprint and India, except in cases where films have previously been licensed to other territorial broadcasters.

Titles include 2003 Salman Khan-starrer "Tere Naam," 2002 Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan vehicle "Naa Tum Jaano Naa Hum" and 2002 romancer "Pyar Diwana Hota Hai," starring popular comedian Govinda and Rani Mukherjee.

Both companies suggest that the catalogue deal could be followed by other agreements covering Eros' current slate. "For us it's a commencement of a long lasting relationship which we would like to extend with the licensing of many more blockbusters going forward," Sameer Rao, senior VP, strategic planning and commercial, STAR India, said. "This is just the beginning of a great relationship between Eros and STAR, which are both leading players in the Indian entertainment domain," Pranab Kapadia, president distribution, Eros Int'l, said.
