TOKYO -- Nintendo has upped its profit forecast for the current fiscal year as sales of its Wii and DS consoles and software soar.

Nintendo now sees net profit growing 59% to 410 billion yen ($3.76 billion), compared with its earlier estimate of  $2.98 billion.

The company expects operating profit to rise 33% to $5.97 billion, ditching its previous guesstimate of $4.87 billion.

Worldwide sales of Wii consoles are now forecast to hit 26.5 million with DS consoles selling 30.5 million units for the year. This compares with earlier estimates of 25 million and 28 million, respectively.

Also, Nintendo has upticked projections for DS software sales from 187 million to 197 million units.

Total sales for fiscal 2008, ending next March, are now estimated to be $18.37 billion, compared to the earlier forecast of $16.5 billion.
