Yes, NBC is home to the Olympic broadcasts in nthe U.S. But the web is a different story.
Every website covering the Games saw a boost in traffic, but in terms of unique users (the web's Nielsens), Yahoo trounced the Peacock's website numbers, 19.4 million to 14.2 million, despite the push for NBCOlympics.com and other peripheral goodies cooked up by the Peacock.
In fact, the Web has played a unique role in the 2008 Games. For one, it's been the only place to watch a couple of Olympic events, notably the jaw-dropping win by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. He broke the world record with a time of 19.30 seconds but the feat could only be seen Stateside on YouTube, since, for those 19.3 seconds, Michael Phelps was swimming to victory at the same time.
