HONG KONG -- Joonmo Kwon, CEO of Korean online games leader Nexon Corp. and Nexon Mobile, will give the keynote address at the sophomore edition of the Games Convention Asia Conference, which runs Sept. 18-20 in Singapore.

Kwon will speak about "Online Game as Social Interactive Entertainment Media."

Nexon pioneered the successful free-to-play business model in the late 1990s following the success of "The Kingdom of the Winds," the first graphical massive multiplayer online role-playing game.

Company's "MapleStory" has more than 87 million subscribers worldwide, while its "KartRider" claims a third of the South Korean population as participants and is known as the national game.

Nexon is now diversifying into console and mobile games, animation and merchandising.

"By sharing knowledge of online games as entertainment media, we hope to inspire the next generation game companies to think differently and grow the overall market worldwide," he said.

"Joonmo Kwon is a veteran in the online and mobile games industries and his knowledge of online games and entertainment will be very valuable to the GCAC attendees," conference organizer Frank Sliwka, said.

Nexon has been blazing the microtransaction path for years now. Adding Kwon's expertise to this already exciting conference makes it all the better. The industry is starving for an expert with actual success, with Kwon, they've found it.
