TOKYO -- Tokyo-based distrib and exhib T-Joy has inked an unusual deal with Korean counterpart CJ Entertainment to screen pics from each other's
line-ups in their theaters.
Starting from this month the two companies will release pics from their partner with the aim of expanding their offerings beyond their own slates. T-Joy will kick off the new set-up on August 9, opening three Korean action pics from CJ Entertainment -- "Tazza: The High Rollers," "Cruel Winter Blues" and "The Art of Fighting" -- in three Tokyo metro theaters. Meanwhile. CJ will release one T-Joy pic -- a record of a stage performance by the theater group Gekidan Shinkansen -- in one theater in Seoul in October.
The plan is to release at least three of their partner's pics in their theaters annually, while dividing the B.O.
A subsid of major studio Toei, T-Joy operates 13 theaters in Japan
