HONG KONG -- The Indian Film Co., Viacom's movie partner in India, has struck what it claims is a novel music-rights deal.
It has licensed the music rights from two films to Sony BMG for 12 years. Bollywood music rights are traditionally sold in perpetuity.
Films are helmer Anil "Senior" Sharma's "Dil kabaddi," one of its own co-productions skedded for local release Sept. 19, and helmer Sanjay Gadhvi's "Kidnap," starring Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan, set for worldwide release on Oct 2. The soundtrack is composed by Pritam. "We have successfully structured the sale of music rights for a limited duration, breaking away from the industry standard of music IPR being sold in perpetuity. We are proud to have pioneered a new standard for the industry," said Sandeep Bhargava, CEO of the investment adviser to IFC.
IFC is listed on the alternative investment market section of the London Stock Exchange.
