HONG KONG — Sony Pictures Television Intl. has picked up Asian distribution rights to a slate of mobile, online and TV content from U.K. animation house ZAC Toons.

The five cartoon characters that SPTI will be distributing include Mr. Patel, an exaggerated and twisted Bollywood extravaganza; Bitter Barney, a vertically challenged egg who finds it hard not to be charming; Dangerous D, a prankish girl and her victim; superheroes The Unremarkables; and a mischievous character, Cheeky Devil.

SPTI has rights in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and India and will license made-for-mobile content, including video greetings, screensavers, animated wallpapers, voicetones and video episodes featuring the characters.

"Zac Toons has achieved much success with its original multiplatform entertainment properties. Deals such as this will enhance our leading position in the (mobile entertainment) industry," Rosemary Tan, director, mobile entertainment, Asia, Sony Pictures Television Intl., said.
