Media Asia announced that it has cancelled the license agreements with Tartan Films in the U.K. and Tartan Films USA and that rights reverted back to it with effect from July 4.

Movies covered by the previous distribution agreements are "Infernal Affairs," "Infernal Affairs II" and "Infernal Affairs III," Johnnie To-helmed "Breaking News," and two titles directed by Wong Kar-wai, "Days of Being Wild" and "As Tears go by," all of which were licensed for the U.K. only. Additionally, the Feng Xiaogang pic "A World Without Thieves" had been licensed in both North America and the U.K

Foreclosure of Tartan USA was announced in May, while the British operations went into administration in June (Variety, June 24, 2008.)

At the beginning of the decade Tartan, headed by Hamish McAlpine, was one of the most aggressive European buyers of Asian films and operated the Tartan Asia Extreme video label.
