HONG KONG -- News Corp.'s Star India has appointed J.C. Giri as executive VP and g.m. of regional channels, including the company's planned portfolio in Bengali, Gujarati and Marathi. He reports to Star India CEO Uday Shankar.

"We are committed to high quality broadcast entertainment that will engage viewers in their native languages at the local level," said Giri, who was previously president of ad agency Ogilvy & Mather, Mumbai.

In Hong Kong, Star has appointed Jonathan Ellis as senior VP of advertising sales. He oversees airtime sales across the company's regional markets including Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. He joins from Eurosport in London, where he was commercial director with responsibilities that included TV, online, on-ground and mobile advertising.

"We've had a terrific year thus far with many of our pan regional channels such as Star World, Star Movies and Channel (V) having displayed remarkable success in markets as diverse as Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. We have an enormous opportunity to further grow our advertising revenues to appropriately reflect our strong viewership across the region," said Laureen Ong, Star chief operating officer.
