TOKYO: Universal Pictures has bought all North American rights to the
Japanese period actioner "Dororo," the pic's production company, the TBS
web, announced on Friday.
"Dororo" stars Kou Shibasaki ("The Sinking of Japan") as the woman warrior
Dororo, who was raised as a man. She encounters a young samurai (Satoshi
Tsumabuki), whose father gave 48 of his body parts to demons, and joins him
on his quest to recover the parts and regain his natural form.
Toho will open "Dororo," which is tipped as one of the hottest Japanese pics
of the new year, on 300 screens on January 27 in Japan.
TBS has sold rights to 20 territories in Europe and Asia, but the Universal
deal is the biggest.
