Universal Music Group is expanding its licensing deal with Disney Music Group and will act on behalf of Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records throughout Asia.
Although the deal excludes the massive Japanese market, the pact is lucrative as it covers both digital and physical rights.
UMG will immediately start selling Disney's catalog in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. India will be included beginning in October.
Universal has an existing international licensing pact with the Disney in South America and Canada, as well as a distribution arrangement in the U.S. In addition, UMG has licensed the Jonas Brothers' eponymous album from Hollywood Records for distribution in Europe.
The Asian agreement will include the release of Disney albums by Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, "High School Musical's" Vanessa Hudgens and Hilary Duff, as well as the soundtracks to "Camp Rock" and "High School Musical: Senior Year."
