"Yasukuni" finds French distributor |

"Yasukuni," the controversial documentary about the Japanese attitudes to war criminals, has been acquired for French release by Jupiter Communications. Company plans a theatrical release later this year. International sales are being handled by The Film Library, which picked up the film shortly before Cannes. Directed by Chinese helmer Li Ying, pic has caused howls of outrage within Japan from politicians, shrine officials and film financiers. Its Japanese release was delayed by protests and required distributor Argo to find new theaters."In a more and more violent world, it is essential to be conscious of the criminal aspect of wars. This confrontation with the ugly, non-heroic side of war will not change the past, but allow us to improve the future of our children," Jupiter topper Jan Roeloffs said.
