"Challenging Heaven," a birth-of-a-nation picture focused on the rise of former Chinese premier Mao Zedong, will likely shoot this winter in Vietnam.
Pic is produced by Steven North ("Vukovar," "Last Butterfly") with a John Goldsmith script that is an adaptation of two books: "Mao," by BBC journo Philip Short, and "The Man Who Stayed Behind."
North says he has the logistical support of the Vietnamese government and that the pic will employ up to 100,000 soldiers to re-enact the battles of Mao's Long March and the ensuing Chinese civil war.
