Tom Yoda, prexy of the Tokyo Intl. Film Festival, has promised that this year's festival will take on a green tinge.
Yoda, who also heads the Usen-Gaga group and is vice-chairman of the Tokyo Content Festival, is determined to make the festival stronger, more industry relevant and more competitive.
Environmental theme has yet to be fully developed, but will likely see the creation of a special environment awareness prize and may see red carpets replaced with green ones. "We don't need to get into politics, but if there are good films with things to say we would like to include them," Yoda said.
Yoda said opening film will be a foreign film and to make more of a media event, he will only invite into competish pics that bring stars and directors.
This year's dates --- Oct. 18-26 for the festival and Oct. 22-24 for the market section --have been set after much antagonizing.
