Amit Khanna,
chairman of India's Reliance Entertainment, will be a keynote speaker
at Amazia, Reed Midem's new Asia-based entertainment content market and
conference in Hong Kong Nov. 17-20.
Earlier this week it was announced that MGM Studios chairman-CEO Harry E. Sloan will also deliver a keynote speech.
Amazia,
to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, focuses
on TV, animation, music and vidgames, and has a strong emphasis on
multiplatform distribution.
Khanna, who also chairs the
convergence committee for the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce
and Industry, gave a blistering speech at last month's Ficci-Frames
convention about the digital future.
He warned that in the
shifting paradigm of entertainment, people will receive services in
exchange for their attention. Monetizing this attention will be the
business model of the future.
Amazia announced, too, that Sony Pictures Television Intl. will exhibit at the event.
Sony's
commitment comes days after Reed Midem tied down the support of the
170-member Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, an association-cum-lobby of
the region's terrestrial networks.
Some 135 Asian buyers had previously confirmed their participation.
Among the 160 exhibitors lined up are a strong presence of Spanish-language broadcasters including Televisa, NBC U's Telemundo, Venevision and TV Azteca.
Reed Midem, the organizer of Mip TV, Mipcom, Midem and Milia TV, is owned by Variety's parent company, Reed Elsevier.
