HONG KONG – Kenneth Tan has
been appointed COO of Singapore's influential Media Development Authority. He
replaces Man Shu Sum, who left to join TV powerhouse Mark Burnett Asia, and
starts on May 2, 2008.
Tan was
formerly MD of exhib chain Golden
Village Singapore
and is current chairman of the Singapore Film Society. Prior to his position
at Golden
Village, Mr Tan, 43, was
the Chief Executive Officer of MediaCorp Radio and Chief Operating Officer of
MediaCorp TV.

services for local and international audiences and provide greater impetus to
our drive to make Singapore the
media gateway between Asia and the world.”
In January
last year Tan was famously forced to pay token damages to settle a defamation
suit with CK Phoon, then CEO of co-parent company Golden Harvest.
In a separate
court case that alleged that "serious corporate governance failures,"
and was dropped in January 2008, Golden Harvest singled out Tan for criticism.
It accused him of acting against the board's wishes in agreeing to a ticket
price hike. It also said that Tan's role as prexy of the Singapore Film Society
was a conflict of interest with his day job.
