TOKYO -- A Tokyo exhibitor has pulled out of an agreement to show controversial docu "Yasukuni," citing security concerns. The pic, shot by Chinese helmer Li Ying over the course of a decade, details activities in and around the title shrine, which is dedicated to Japan's war dead, including clashes between nationalists and anti-war activists.
The pic, distribbed by Argo Pictures, was skedded to open on April 12 at four theaters in Tokyo and one in Osaka. Toei subsid T-Joy, which operates one of the theaters, the new Wald 9  'plex in the Tokyo entertainment district of Shinjuku, said that it reached the decision not to show the pic last Thursday and formally conveyed the news to Argo last Saturday.

A T-Joy spokesman told the press that the pic "has a lot of controversy surrounding it.
If an incident occurs it will cause trouble and hardship to the other tenants in the building."
Other theaters have not yet indicated that they will follow T-Joy's lead. The pic has already screened at the Berlin, Sundance and Pusan fests.
