Toon houses Production I.G. and OLM have joined TV Tokyo to make "Keitai sosakan" (Cell Phone Detectives), a VFX action series with a line-up of helmers that includes Takashi Miike ("Imprint"), Mamoru Oshii ("Ghost in the Shell") and Shusuke Kaneko ("Death Note").

The 51-episode series will debut on the six-station TV Tokyo network on April 2 at 7 p.m.toshiba phones.jpg

The stories revolve around detectives who probe digital-network-related crimes and a teenager (Masataka Kubota) who helps them with the aid of his trusty, "Transformers"-like cell phone.

WiZ and Production I.G will supply scripts, while Miike will be overall series director. The cell phone the hero uses will be marketed by Soft Bank starting in April.

For those who are wondering, Hitomi Shimatani sings the opening theme song for the series (called WAKE YOU UP) and the Japanese band BACK-ON sing the ending theme 'Sands of Time'.
