The serial, produced by Cinevista, is a spinoff of a folk tale that chronicles the travails of 300-year-old ghost Vetal, who hangs from a Banyan tree, and his rescuer, Vicky.

"We seek to strengthen connections with kids and their families by developing creative, quality local content that reflects the lives of the local audiences," said Nicky Parkinson, senior VP and managing director, Walt Disney Television Intl. (Asia Pacific).

Disney, which launched its Hindi-language Disney Channel and Toon Disney in December 2004, recently acquired UTV's kids' channel Hungama TV and has about 17%-23% of the kids' market behind Pogo and the Cartoon Network, which held 23% and 25% respectively
