Hong Kong Disneyland announced four entertainment initiatives for next year on Wednesday -- the same day local pols were told that the park's performance has been "unsatisfactory."

The new features are Muppet Mobile Lab, High School Musical Celebration, Turtle Talk With Crush and The Art of Animation. HKDL has already announced the opening of classic Disney attraction It's A Small World in early 2008.

"The performance of the park in its first two years of operation is unsatisfactory," Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Frederick Ma told the local parliament, Legco. "As a majority shareholder of the park, the government considers it should improve its performance."

Earlier this week government papers showed that attendance at the park in its second year dropped by over a million to just over 4 million (Variety, Dec. 18).

Ma ducked a question about whether Hong Kong would further fund the park if Disney decided to launch another theme park in Shanghai.

Government officials privately complain that every time they try to discuss finances with the park, Disney officials counter with talk of a rival Shanghai park.
