SANTA MONICA – Leading Korean indie distribber Mirovision has
moved into new gear with a
U.S. remake deal and the reactivation
of its production slate.
Company has struck a deal with NHO Entertainment for an English-language
remake of its 2005 horror pic "APT." NHO's Mark
Costa and Ford Oelman expect to announce attachment of major director within the
month.
Mirovision has green-lighted "Tomorrow News," an adaptation of well-known
Manga comic collection on which former AD Chung Keung-sup will make his helming
debut. Pic, being made on a budget in excess of $6 million, will lense from next
Spring and make use of a Korean special effects consortium. Company also
optioned TV series rights.
It is now in production
on 1940s epic romancer "Once Upon a Time," being helmed by Cheong Yong-Ki,
director of hits "Marrying the Mafia" parts I and II.
Mirovision has been under new management since January, when company
topper Jason Chae was called up for military service. It appointed former
Samsung Entertainment Group exec Bae Su-seok as CEO and in recent weeks hired
former French cultural attache Nicolas Piccato as int'l co-production
specialist.
Theatrical distribution operation this week bought a slew of rights to
pics including "Ed Zwick's "
Defiance " from Essential Entertainment, "The
Women" from Inferno and "Juno" from Mandate Int'l.
On the sales front, Mirovision
licensed its sequel "Mafia,
the Salesman" to
Thailand 's Jiant
Entertainment.
