Americans are passionate about their reality TV competitions, but they don't have a thing on auds in India.
About 60 people, including 12 police officers, were injured last week as rioting fans of "Indian Idol" winner Prashant Tamang protested a DJ's derogatory remarks about the singer's Nepali descent.
Fans of Bengali runner-up Amit Paul joined in the melee until the army was called in and a curfew imposed in Siligiri, West Bengal, for the next few days.
Tamang then issued a Rodney King-like call for peace, saying, "Violence has no place in song or music."
However, he said he plans to sue the DJ.
