How to write this blog without shameless self-aggrandisement? Let’s
get
it out the way quickly – I sang “Smells Like Teen Spirit” with
Daniel
Henney and we rocked hard. Phew!
Daniel is a huge star here, prompting screams and hysteria from the
roving packs of uniformed schoolgirls patrolling Pusan’s precincts
(why
are they still wearing their school uniforms at 11 p.m.?) and he’s in
town to promote “My Father,” directed by critics’ darling Hwang
Dong-hyuk, which traces an adoptee’s quest for his birth family.
Dong-hyuk did an emotional rendition of “I just called to say I love
you” by Stevie Wonder, for the record.
The Nirvana song is a tough warble, especially for a working thespian,
as its raspy register plays hell with the voice, but the engaging
Michiganian rose to the challenge without any problem.
Son of an American of British extraction father and a Korean mother,
Danny had to learn Korean from scratch, but has managed it pretty well.
And if he tires of the acting game here, a career in the Nirvana
tribute
band industry is always there.
