Some of you might remember me as the 'AFA Rain fan' blogger (someone actually called me that once, honest!) during Hong Kong's FilMart. At the time, even though I was blogging from that Asian Film Awards, all I could point out was the screaming Rain fans sitting in front of me. I actually left the show early because my ears literally couldn't take the extremely loud and high-pitched yelps.
Why did I bring this up? Because something happened last night that makes me think that you cannot take the screaming out of Korea. As I stood at the side of the red carpet during last night's Pusan fest opening, my eardrums were mildly damaged from the screaming reporters and/or festival volunteers standing next to me. Not only would they scream every time a celebrity walked by, they would push and wave at them like they were long-lost lovers who survived a war and found each other again. It was all the more insane because they were meant to be working!
As we left the event, what welcomed us at the exit? Screaming teenage girls in school uniforms, still waving their signs and taking photos long after the celebs took their seats.
