SEOUL -- The upcoming Pusan Film Festival plans to shine a spotlight on
3-D cinema, which Pusan's organizers see as one of the industry's
growth sectors.
Section
is part of the fest's Bifcom locations and facilities market (Oct.
8-11) put together by the Busan Film Commission and includes a variety
of events under the slogan "Digital Steps to Film Production in 3
Dimensions!"
The 3-D event kicks off with a presentation by
companies including the U.S.' In-Three, which will showcase a kit for
converting films shot in 2-D films to 3-D, and Japan's Visual
Communication. Latter will demo specialized cinematography techniques
and technology for originating movies in 3-D.
"While the
traditional film industry is now being threatened by HD home
entertainment and illegal piracy, the 3-D cinema market is a potential
blue ocean," said Bifcom exec Lee Hyung-seok. He cited the success of
such movies as "Polar Express 3-D," "Superman Returns," "Chicken
Little" and "Monster House."
Event will also include a Bifcom
seminar (Oct. 9), set to include forecasts for the 3-D movie market, an
examination of 3-D film production costs and prospects for the 3-D
theater biz.
