HONG KONG -- "Flash Point," an actioner starring Donnie Yen and helmed by Wilson Yip, has set the Chinese box office alight. Pic grossed RMB15 million ($1.98 million) in its first 3 days of release, according to its Hong Kong production and sales house Mandarin Films.

The film, given a wide 500-print release in China by Poly Bona last Friday, topped "Secret," the directorial debut of Taiwanese superstar Jay Chou. "Secret," a romantic drama, reached a cume of $2.44 million in its first week of release after opening on Tuesday, according to producer Edko Films.

"It hasn't been an easy summer for Chinese-language films in China, so we're thrilled with the numbers," said Virginia Leung, senior distribution manager at Mandarin. At Cannes market "Flash Point" was licensed for North America by Distant Horizon.

Pic has recently been added to the "Midnight Madness" program at the upcoming Toronto fest.
