"Flash Point" ignites China box office |

HONG KONG -- "Flash Point," an actioner starring Donnie
Yen and helmed by Wilson Yip, has set the Chinese box office alight. Pic
grossed RMB15 million ($1.98 million) in its first 3 days of
release, according to its Hong Kong production and sales house
Mandarin Films.
The
film, given a wide 500-print release in China
by Poly Bona last Friday, topped "Secret," the directorial debut of
Taiwanese superstar Jay Chou. "Secret," a romantic drama, reached a cume of $2.44 million in its first
week of release after opening on Tuesday, according to producer Edko
Films.
"It hasn't been
an easy summer for Chinese-language films in China, so we're thrilled with the
numbers," said Virginia Leung, senior distribution manager at Mandarin. At
Cannes market
"Flash Point" was licensed for North America by
Distant Horizon.
Pic has recently
been added to the "Midnight Madness"
program at the upcoming Toronto fest.
