HONG KONG -- Imagi Intl. Holdings, the animation house behind “Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles,” has pacted with Wah Shing Toys to develop toys based on
Imagi’s $40 million toon movies “Gatchaman” and “Astroboy,” due for
release in 2009.
Company
said pact is different from normal license deals. “Usually movie
studios sign a license agreement, then leave the toy company to fend
for itself,” Imagi co-CEO Doug Glen said. “By pooling the creative
juices of the toy designers, the resulting toys will be truer to the
movies.”
The two are in discussions with other toy firms for marketing and distribution.
