Grizzled British rockers Status Quo will bring their own brand of
mayhem and misadventure to Thailand next year when they star in
Thai-set comedy caper "Care Factor Zero."
Movie
sees band members Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt embark on a wild
chase. They are pursued on the Orient Express by bikers and an
organized crime gang and dragged into a game of Russian roulette. Pic
ends with a triumphant concert in Bangkok.
"Zero" is being put
together on a budget of $6.8 million by the band's Status Quo Films
company and U.K. multihyphenate Stuart St. Paul.
Some 70% of coin
is coming from Rainbow Films, an affiliate of Germany's Highlight
Communica tions. Highlight subsid Constantin Film is in negotiations to
handle world sales rights. Remaining finance will be U.K. and
Thai-sourced, involving a Blighty private investor. The band's music
and DVD labels, Warner Bros (U.K.) and Universal, are also understood
to be considering boarding the British component. Thai investors are
also weighing financial commitment in return for a share of SE Asian
revenues.
Status Quo, which has sold more than 118 million
records, wrap its U.K tour on Dec. 23 and will play a single full live
concert in Bangkok in mid-March, before playing Australia, Singapore,
Hong Kong and the Middle East on its way back to England.
"Zero"
is skedded to lense in Thailand between the two tours -- from Feb. 2 to
March 14. Full package also envisions a "making-of" documentary for TV
and a live DVD of the Bangkok concert.
Band will also play live at the Cannes film fest to clips of the movie shot in Thailand.
Movie's
other cast include Ralph Brown ("Withnail and I"), Laura Aikman ("Blood
Monkeys"), Bruce Jones ("The Full Monty"), Jeff Hordley (TV's
"Emmerdale") and Ryan Kwanten ("Summerland," "Home and Away").
