TOKYO -- "Climates," a drama by Turkish helmer Nuri Bilge Ceylan, scooped the
Grand Prize at the Skip City Intl. Digital Cinema fest in Kawaguchi,
Saitama Prefecture. A Y10 million ($8,278) cash prize, presented by ,
accompanied the award. Set in summer on the Aegean coast, the pic
relates the vexed relationship of a professor and his young, wayward
lover.
Among
other prizes in the 12-pic competition section, the new director nod
went to Nenad Djuric for "Skies Above the Landscape," screenplay to
Manuela Stacke's "Children of the Moon," the technology award to
Michael Wikke and Steen Rasmussen's "Skymaster, A Flying Family
Fairytale" and a special jury prize to Angus Gibson's "Heartlines."
In
the short-length competition for Japanese pics, top film was awarded to
Atsushi Suzuki's "Let's Go Bang-Chow Dead or Alive," while honorable
mentions went to Bunji Sotoyama's "Stardust Serenade" and Tazuko Aso
and Tetsuya Kawaguchi's "Twilight Clouds -- First Love."
The only
Japanese fest dedicated to digital cinema, Skip City unspooled its
fourth edition July 14-22 at the Skip City media complex in Kawaguchi,
a Tokyo satellite city.
