HONG KONG – Local Singaporean movie "Solos" will not be shown to the public at the Singapore International Film Fest, which got underway Thursday.
But in a compromise, pic will still be eligible for the fest's Silver Screen awards.
Although it was the only Singapore-made film selected for SIFF's competition section, "Solos" status within the fest has long been in doubt due to its gay theme and sex scenes.
Pic received an R21 certification from government censors, subject to film-makers making three cuts. SIFF's policy is to show its films intact.
Decision not to go ahead with the public screening next Wednesday (April 25), was taken jointly by the film-makers and the fest. However, pic will be screened in private for the jury, enabling it to still qualify for kudos.
Based on a true story of a teacher-student relationship and an uncommunicative parent, "Solos" was directed by Kan Lume and Loo Zihan.
It was produced by Florence Ang, with Ricardo Uncilla as exec producer and Kan Lume as co-producer.
