TOKYO -- Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea posted a combined record
attendance of 25.82 million for fiscal 2006, up 4.2% on the previous
year, park operator Oriental Land announced on Monday.
Visitor
numbers got a boost from special events and promotions celebrating the
fifth anniversary of Tokyo DisneySea, as well as from the new Tower of
Terror. Warm winter temperatures also encouraged visitors to make the
trek to the parks in the Tokyo suburb of Urayasu.
Tokyo
Disneyland, which opened in April 1983, and Tokyo DisneySea, which
launched in September 2001, have received a total of 411 million
visitors.
Visitor numbers to Universal Studios Japan rose 4.6%
year on year to 8.7 million in 2006, exceeding its visitor target of
8.3 million. The Osaka park was boosted by a new attraction, Hollywood
Dream -- The Ride, as well as the weather.
