SHAMO, the raging new movie from Soi Cheang, director of DOG BITE DOG, finally has a trailer up and you can find it over here on the YouTubes. Starring Shawn Yue (INFERNAL AFFAIRS 2), Francis Ng (THE MISSION) and K-1 fighter Masato the movie is based on a manga by Izuo Hashimoto about a teenager, Ryo, who murders his parents and is sent to a reformatory where, according to the plot synopsis, he's gang raped by the other boys, taught karate by a man who once tried to assassinate the Japanese Prime Minister, and hits the streets using his bloody-fisted fighting skills to find his drug-abusing, hooker sister, while also making time to take part in illegal, underground death matches.

Early reports are mixed but everyone agrees that the action is nasty, Shawn Yue is a grisly and effective Ryo and the style is out of sight. It's currently screening at AFM and is being repped by EasternLight Films.

Sameway seem to have style and look aspects down pat, but the Dog Bite Dog script was pretty much a giant mess. Hope this one improves on that regard. Let's also not forget that they've got a SASORI sequel in the works, helmed by (ugh) Joe Ma of Love Undercover fame. I remain skeptical.
