Pang Vs. Lau

Way back in 1998, Andrew Lau's THE STORM RIDERS came along in a year when the Hong Kong film industry was dealing with a box office so lousy that its obituaries were already being written, and it was such a mega-hit that it almost single-handedly gave the industry a new lease on life. There was a semi-sequel, A MAN CALLED HERO, that most people forgot about and that was it. Until now...

A sharp-eyed reader sends word that Danny Pang (of the Pang Brothers: THE EYE and BANGKOK DANGEROUS) is looking to buy the rights of the STORM RIDERS comic book and make a new version of the film. It'll be unrelated to the original STORM RIDERS movie but he hopes to get Ekin Cheng and Aaron Kwok to play the leads again.

Lau Power

When Ming Pao mentioned this to Andrew Lau he exploded with, "WHO WANTS TO MAKE IT? I DON'T KNOW AND I DON'T WANT TO KNOW! He went on to say that for two years he's been working on a sequel to STORM RIDERS in secret and that he finally has a first draft and a Chinese language title in hand. His version will be related to the original and he also hopes to bring Aaron and Ekin on board to reprise their roles.

Grady Hendrix: CORRECTION
A quick correction: it's Oxide Pang, not Danny Pang, who's interested in the STORM RIDERS sequel.

My apologies.
