Midnight Eagle crashes, burns

Shochiku's big winter action blockbuster, MIDNIGHT EAGLE, has crashed at the box office. It opened in Japan with blah figures and in the US it opened in 88th place for the weekend, pulling in slightly above $2500 on two screens. Not a good movie to be in the vanguard of a movement for day and date releases and we can only hope that this isn't a precedent that's used to discourage the practice in the future. What the world needs now are more and more regular day and date releases, not less. Foo on MIDNIGHT EAGLE for underperforming so badly.

And here's a not-very-nice review of the film

Jason: The real travesty is...
This means we'll probably never get to see Midnight Eagle II, or Aces: Midnight Eagle III. That's right, I went there!
