In the midst of all these doom and gloom interviews about the state of Asian DVD distribution in America and the perils of releasing classic titles, Synapse Films seem to have struck gold, or at least copper, with their HORRORS OF MALFORMED MEN disc. The Teruo Ishii film includes liner notes by Patrick Macias, was produced by Marc Walkow and has been getting all kinds of big fat reviews like Dave Kehr's recent piece in the New York Times.
The disc is even popping up in Japan, as the above photo testifies. This is called a parallel import, it's how a lot of film fans in America get their Asian DVDs and apparently it's a two way street. Producer Marc Walkow writes on his blog (god, does everyone have one of those things now?) that there are no less than eight Easter Eggs hidden on the MALFORMED MEN disc and no one seems to have found any of them yet.
HORRORS is currently in the top five sellers for DVD Empire and is ranked at #1,357 on Amazon.
